The Beta
When the Wolves Come is finally ready for Beta reading! I’ve given out six or so copies as of today. Now begins the slow terror of awaiting deserved criticism. This part makes me anxious. After a few years of blood, sweat, and hair pulling, I have managed to cobble together a story I think is pretty fun. What if it’s not?
Okay, that’s a real possibility, right? The beta readers probably aren’t going to come right out and say that, but they could be thinking it. Little voices inside that say things like that need to be squashed because anything can be fixed, edited, or modified. The book isn’t set in stone until it’s published. Realistically, it’ll need a few more edits no matter how good I think it is at this point.
My current plans are to take the suggestions from beta readers and do one more draft. I’m hoping that will only take a month or so. But if major plot or structure changes are required, it could take longer. That’s gonna be a hard pill to swallow. At this point, I’m so ready for this book to be done.
Overall, I am staying positive by giving myself something else to work on. While WTWC is out for reading, I am busy plotting my next book in preparation for NaNoWriMo. Getting into something new and wonderful is giving me the creative spark I need. Soon, I’ll start posting about that stuff. Stay tuned.
Me looking forward to NaNoWriMo
Ad Astra, friends!
Just a notional book cover… one of probably many to come
